Education

I received my Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Emporia State University in 1978. Emporia State was one of the last, if not the last, of the "State Normal Schools" in the United States. Back in the early days of our nation, "Normal Schools" were where men and women went to  be trained and prepared to be classroom teachers. ESU began to offer other degrees in the 60s. However, to this day, ESU is well-known in the midwest for being a "teachers college".

Experience

The 2015-2016 school year is my 18th year to teach in public schools. I also have 5 years experience in private schools. Prior to living in Alabama, I taught in Kansas and Texas.

Bio

I 'm a native Texan, but have called the beautiful state of Alabama my home for 9 years.

I love living in this part of Alabama. The climate, terrain, and foilage remind me of my childhood home in east Texas. I love that we are a short distance from the beautiful white sands of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, and not too far from the scenic mountains of northeast Alabama. But my favorite part of Alabama is the people: friendly, lovely, southern people!

My husband, David, and I have 4 sons and 1 daughter. We are also blessed to have 3 precious grandchildren. We also have one furry child, a Havanese named Havie (I know, it's such a creative name).

A year ago my husband and I moved from Prattville to Wetumpka. I love being closer to Wetumpka Elementary School and all the other things I love in Wetumpka!

Since I first moved to Alabama, I have been actively involved with The Wetumpka Depot Players. I am crazy about anything to do with the theater. I have served concessions, worked as a stagehand, sewn many costumes (even a monkey 's jacket), auditioned for many shows, rehearsed for many, many hours, and performed in a a bunch of shows. If you have never seen a production at The Depot, I hope you will make it a point to see a show soon. It is one of the best little theaters in Alabama.... no kidding, it has won many awards on the state, regional ,and national level among community theaters across the U.S.

Now, for all you football fans, my one claim-to-fame in life is that my daddy played football for Bear Bryant at Texas A & M. He played end, opposite of Gene Stallings. So if you wonder who I root for.... Gig'Em Aggies!

Why did I decide to become a teacher? Shortly after I started first grade (there was no kindergarten back in those days) I told my mommy I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My dream never changed. I love what I get to do! Children are the most delightful people. Oh sure, they can be a handful at times, but they are full of wonder, energy, curiosity, and hope. They are our future. I am humbled and honored that I get to be a small part of their years of education. They make a huge difference in my life! And I hope I can help prepare them for this great adventure we call LIFE!
